THE PENTAGRAM

The Pentagram symbolizes many different things.  The Necronomicon says that it is the symbol of man.  It can be used to symbolize the five elements, the five senses, man and many other things.  Above all else it is a symbol, it can mean different things to different people.  In wicca it is normally seen upright although at one time we used it inverted as well, but that has lost some significance once the Satanists started using it.  We used it to symbolize when the power is being directed from above to below, from our Gods and Goddesses to us.  The Satanists normally use it (pardon me if I do get this wrong but), to direct the power from below to above. 

Here in this application it is used to navigate the five elements.  Just click on the element (it will even morph for you), and you can go to that element.  

            The elements are in everything around us.  There are five elements:  Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit.  Some may say that that is not true, because carbon is an element, uranium, xenon, argon, gold, silver are all elements too (I need not go on).  That is true, but not in the elements that we are talking about.  Earth is not just the ground, nor does it represent all of the elements that are found in the earth, it is the attribute of our modern elements of being grounded, being hard, being a solid, and many other things.  The malleability of an element such as gold could be considered the watery aspect of the element. 

            Anyway I digress; Wiccans and Pagans use Elements in all forms of magick, and ritual.  We do this because we are using archetypes, to us earth means much more than what others may even consider.  Such as… (see tables).  Please keep in mind that like all other things, many people see things differently.  For instance some may see the staff as an air element, possibly because it is held aloft, or some may see it as a fire element because it is wood and will burn, others may see it as an earth element because it once was a tree and was grown from the earth.  Not to mention that many times we make our own tools (purchase them at times too).  A wand to me represents fire, but if you made your wand from crystals you may consider it an earth element representation.  Use your judgment, but always keep an open mind and understanding.
